Giving the leftovers of our meal to the dog is a very common habit in Italian homes.

To understand if this habit is really harmful in your specific case, you should know every time what you consider leftovers and what your diet is, this is impossible.

Even if your lunch or dinner is as healthy as possible, feeding your dog is a habit to avoid as, usually, our foods are not suitable for our dog who is, we remember, a carnivore. Some ingredients and some cooking methods can really be harmful to the dog which, even if digested at the moment, can cause various damages in the long run.

Assuming, however, that your diet does not contain substances or cooking harmful to your four-legged friend, giving him leftovers is still not a recommended habit because we are not veterinarian nutritionists and choosing the right caloric intake and the right proportion of all nutrients would be difficult while cooking for him , let alone binding our leftovers to the dog.

To find out which foods are harmful to dogs, watch the video below where we interviewed the veterinarian nutritionist Oscar Pellegrini on this topic.
