Summer is finally here! And together with travel and holidays, the heat and the mugginess also keep us company: conditions that can annoy our four-legged friends, especially those who spend the summer in the city.
But how can we help our furry friends to cope with the heat better?
Small attentions such as not letting them go out during the hottest hours and refreshing them can often give relief, but some precautions regarding nutrition can really make a difference and above all keep them healthier:
1. Rule number one: hydration. We have to make our furry friends drink a lot: to do this, we must make sure to always leave the water in the bowl (if you are traveling, there are handy bottles and water bottles that you can always carry with you). Another tip may be to add some meat or fish broth to the water, in order to create a sort of flavored fresh porridge, thus ensuring more hydration to our furry ones. If the food is left over, it may be a good idea to freeze it in ice cubes, in order to keep it and use it on the hottest days to entice our puppy to drink.
2. The power of plants: four drops of the following flowers can be added to the bowl of baby food or drinking water: the Californian Dill and the classic Bach flowers which are rich in precious properties that help the body fight fatigue and to be more vital. Another plant that can help our puppies is aloe , which contains many vitamins and minerals, but since it doesn’t taste good, we can give it to our furry friends in the form of drops. If, on the other hand, our little dog is no longer a “puppy”, we can add a little rosemary to the baby food, which helps to give tone and vitality.
3. Balanced diet : health begins with good, healthy and balanced nutrition! Especially during hot and muggy days, it would be best to eliminate the usual snacks and replace them with seasonal fruit and vegetables , (if it’s hot, fresh is even better!) because fruit and vegetables contain a lot of protein and fiber, in this way our furry babies will feel fuller without feeling weighed down.
To help our furry friends during the hottest season, we must pay attention to their diet and try to avoid industrial and refined foods, especially snacks (if we really can’t resist, we can give them to them, but in a healthy way ). By giving our four-legged friends the healthiest diet possible, we will make them happier, healthier and will be able to stay with us longer!
