The dog is naturally a carnivore and, even if today it is difficult to imagine him as a predator, he is so in every aspect.
Due to this natural predisposition, if he were free in nature he would hunt other animals and feed on them. For this reason it is easy to understand how carbohydrates would not be part of his natural diet but, the evolution and domestication that took place thousands of years ago, modified his digestive system to make it tolerate other foods as well.
If it were free in nature, the only carbohydrates that the dog would ingest would be those present in the stomach of its prey.
