Small but frequent meals. Feeding for kittens that are a few weeks or a few months old should be like this. In fact, our feline friends have very small and delicate stomachs in the early stages of life. If you have planned for a little cat to arrive at home, be prepared.
How much should a 1-month-old kitten eat?
After the first 3/4 weeks of life, the kitten is ready for weaning. You can start by putting food in its bowl up to 4 times a day; just remember to clean it well. At this stage, the goal of feeding is growth - a bit like a newborn - so the little cat needs a diet that strengthens its bones and supports muscle development: protein-rich, nutritious, and energizing.
Homemade feeding
At 2 months, the cat is already weaned and ready for an “adult” diet. This is when you need to decide whether to choose homemade feeding or commercial food (preferably natural).
When preparing food at home, people usually give them boiled chicken breast, which is easier to digest, and boiled carrots blended with very well-cooked pasta. Gradually, you can also add small pieces of hard-boiled egg or boneless boiled fish. In some cases, meat and vegetable baby food can also be used.
BUT TAKE CARE WITH HOMEMADE FEEDING FOR KITTENS
Homemade feeding is quite risky because knowing how to balance the right nutrients and calorie intake in each meal is rather complex, especially during an extremely important stage such as the first few months of development.

Commercial diets help you with this, with cans and kibble.
However, we need to be careful when choosing, because not all meat is real meat. If we choose a commercial diet, we need to pay attention to the cans and/or kibble we buy by reading the label carefully.
Choose the type of diet you prefer, but in any case, pay attention to what you feed your kitten at this stage.
Also remember that the amount needed for healthy development is roughly 30% of its body weight, with the amount increasing gradually each day. Even a few grams make a difference!
Another important point to remember is to alternate between wet food—such as cans or pouches—and dry food, such as kibble. Our kitten needs both.
Kittens and thirst
Although it may seem strange, cats do not need milk, which can cause diarrhea. Instead, cats should always have water available. Since our furry friends can also be a little “fussy” and need to drink enough water, keep in mind that they prefer large, fresh bowls kept away from their food bowls.
In conclusion, just as it is for us humans, it’s also beneficial for newborn kittens to get used to different kinds of flavors—commercial or homemade—and to have a varied diet, without ever overdoing the quantities!
