Amici gatti: cosa far trovare sotto l’albero

Cat friends: what to put under the tree

Christmas is the perfect time to spoil your cat. Just as we have for dogs, we’ve also come up with some little Christmas gifts for your furry friend to find under the tree alongside the presents for the whole family.

The play circuit

Our feline friends really love to play and enjoy anything that catches their attention. A play circuit could therefore be another lovely Christmas gift idea. Suitable for all types of cats, it usually consists of a circuit with a shiny ball that rolls around, a bit like a marble run! The toy is designed as a chase that encourages the animal to move, exercise its intelligence, and “dust off” its predatory instinct. Boredom will practically disappear!

Another important thing is that it’s non-slip, so it’s absolutely safe.

Catnip

Some cats go crazy for catnip. What is it? Catnip contains vitamins A, B, and C, many minerals that are important for a cat’s well-being, and some essential oils. One of the active ingredients found in this herb’s stems and leaves is Nepatalactone. After sniffing it, many cats seem sedated for about fifteen minutes; some even start jumping, running, and playing around the house! It’s certainly an unusual gift, but it isn’t addictive. In fact, it’s thought to provide sensory stimulation, helping the animal have fun without risking its health. It can be bought ready-prepared as dried leaves or as a potted plant, or you can grow it in the garden or on the terrace.

The scratching post

As we know, our feline friends need to take care of their claws, and a scratching post is a great way to avoid finding every room in the house damaged. As well as being fun, it’s a way to climb, burn off energy, or – why not – enjoy a relaxing corner. They come in many shapes and colors: there are imaginative ones with multiple levels, slides, and ones shaped like animals. If you like, to make the Christmas gift even more special, you could also try making one by hand, perhaps using sturdy cardboard or some old fabric.

Good food

Along with fun, this Christmas let’s not forget our kitten friends’ health and proper nutrition. Their diet should consist mainly of nutritious wet foods with high biological value. Eating meat and fish – foods that contain essential amino acids – will meet their nutritional needs. You can be adventurous and choose different flavors that are more appetizing, special, and delicate. That way, kitty will have a lovely lunch on Christmas Day too!

Give them what they like best

It may sound obvious, but just like us, cats will appreciate what they like best and what suits their personality. A bold cat might enjoy a play circuit to exercise their instincts, while a lazier kitten will be happy with a lovely warm blanket to rest on; a food-loving cat will be delighted to find a new canned food flavor under the tree, while a playful cat will have fun with a new scratching post to climb.

There’s no one-size-fits-all gift for every pet; it’s up to us to know our cat’s personality and choose a lovely gift accordingly. Anything will do, as long as it’s original and, above all, given from the heart. Merry Christmas!
