Come e quando svezzare il tuo gatto

How and when to wean your cat

Weaning is a crucial phase in your kitten's life and requires attention and care, but don't worry, we're here to give you all the advice you need to make it happen easily and safely.

Why is weaning important?

During the first few months of life, kittens need their mother's milk to grow and develop properly.
After about four weeks, they start developing teeth and wanting to explore the world around them.
At this point, it's important to start weaning to gradually introduce solid food into their diet and prepare them for switching to adult food.
The weaning phase should last about a month and a half, until the kitten has learned to eat solid food on its own.

What food to choose for your kitten's weaning?

It's important to choose high-quality food, specifically formulated for kittens.
The food should contain all the essential nutrients for a kitten's growth and development, such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. You can choose between wet or dry food, or a combination of both. We have created the Life Kitten line dedicated exclusively to the first stage of cats' lives.

Some tips:

  1. wet and dry food: wet food is easier for kittens to eat and provides plenty of moisture to keep your kitten hydrated. Once the kitten has learned to eat wet food, you can gradually switch to dry food
  2. Provide a warm, comfortable bed where the kitten can rest and feel safe.
  3. Make sure your kitten has a scratching post to sharpen its claws and toys to play with and stimulate its mind.
  4. Let the kitten be calm and free to explore and rest
  5. Don't use cow's milk: cats don't digest cow's milk well and may develop diarrhea or other digestive problems.

The weaning is an important step in your kitten's growth. Follow our advice and try our Life Kitten line to ensure a balanced and healthy diet for your kitten. Remember that the weaning phase requires patience, but with the right approach, it will be a success.
