Come prevenire il colpo di calore per il tuo cane

How to prevent heatstroke in your dog

Heatstroke in our dogs is one of the most common acute emergencies during the summer months; it is a rise in body temperature above 41° that results in serious consequences.

Our puppies are not able to easily regulate their body temperature, and they don't always have the chance to move to cooler places or avoid the sun.

Among the main causes that can contribute to the onset of heatstroke, we find:

  • Leaving your dog in a car, indoors, or on hot surfaces without shelter from the sun
  • Pre-existing respiratory conditions and abnormal muscle fasciculations
  • Coat thickness and color
  • Being overweight

To recognize heatstroke, among the most frequent symptoms in the most severe cases, we find:

  • Fever
  • Increased heart rate and heavy breathing
  • Weakness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Cardiac circulatory collapse
